Formed in 1933, the York Symphony has performed without interruption since the Depression, through World War II, and continues today. The YSO Chorus was formed in the 1950's and continues to sing with the YSO in three concerts each season.

Maestro, Dr. Robert Hart Baker, a York resident, has held the baton for the YSO for 25 years. Up to eighty outstanding musicians take the stage for each of the YSO's concerts, many whom are local neighbors, friends and colleagues.

The YSO's seasons contain a broad mix of classical and pops opportunities and reaches more than 60,000 people each year by performing a broad repertoire of classical and contemporary music. This season there are six subscription concerts, Pops Concert, July 4th Concert, 2 Young Persons Concerts and 3 free summer Pops in the Park concerts. World renowned guest artists have performed with the York Symphony Orchestra including: Andre Watts, Sir James Galway, Joshua Bell, Sarah Chang, Branford Marsalis, Jerome Hines, Crystal Gayle, Peter Serkin and Ella Fitzgerald.

The YSO supports educational programs for grades K-12 reaching more than 15,000 students each year and in the last 2 years the YSO has been involved in 23 educational events. More than 350 volunteers support the work of the YSO.
