In celebration of the 80th year of the Junior League in York, In The Spotlight Speaker Series is proud to announce An Evening with Laura W. Bush.

As an educator and former first lady of Texas and the United States, Mrs. Laura Bush has a unique and wide-ranging perspective. She is actively involved in issues of national and global concern, with a particular emphasis on education, women’s health and human rights. She has investigated and showcased successful programs for early childhood education, at-risk youth, global literacy and preservation of our national parks and heritage sites. And through her travels to countries as diverse as Afghanistan, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Panama, she has helped to shatter old taboos and oppressions and launch groundbreaking educational and health-care advances for women.

ABOUT Junior League: Mrs. Laura Bush will help the Junior League of York celebrate its 80th Anniversary as an organization of “women building better communities” here in York County in 2010. The In the Spotlight Speaker Series program raises a significant portion of the League’s annual income. The net proceeds from the Speaker Series events fund the League’s grant-making process, helping to fund projects such as: beautifying and helping to revitalize downtown York; restoring the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center; funding the YWCAs Old Town East Renaissance Park; promoting children’s “Kids in the Kitchen” and “Eating Healthy” initiatives; funding Olivia’s House and The Goodridge House; and other endeavors that help improve the lives of those who live in York County.

Patron Tickets include a dessert reception with Laura Bush after the event. Patrons are required to provide their name and contact information to the ticketing agent when purchasing Patron Tickets for security reasons. Cameras and recording devices are prohibited during the presentation.
